Milanese Lace Retreat
We are very excited to announce this special interest week. This is a unique opportunity to join popular modern Milanese Lace teacher and designer Claire Bonito for a week-long retreat here in our beautiful Cortjio in Andalucia.
Over the course of the week you will have plenty of time to work on a Milanese project of your choice or take your first steps into Milanese Lace with Claire by your side.
Lacemakers who would like to try this type of lace for the first time will learn the techniques to get started with a beginners piece that introduces commonly used techniques and decorative braids.
There will be plenty of time for relaxing, walking in the hills or finding a quiet spot in the garden to read or just enjoy the tranquility of your surroundings.
During the week there will also be two days out. At Castellon De Bedar you will enjoy a days' silversmithing.
We will all head to Mojacar on the final day for shopping and a three course lunch on the coast.
Claire has been making and designing lace for around 30 years and has learnt from the best, under Pat Read MBE and latterly Jacqui Tinch.
She has been teaching regularly for over 5 years now and teaches a range of laces with specialism in Modern Milanese.
She has become well known for her contemporary designs using both Milanese and With lace techniques. Claire teaches in a range of settings across the UK. She is extremely talented both as a lacemaker and designer and is a very good communicator with all levels of lacemaking.
Her students say that "she has an easy manner and friendly nature". Her classes are popular with both new and regular students alike.
Claire has been awarded both the Individual's and the Visitor's Choice Trophies in the Lace Guilds 'Contrasts' Exhibition for her Art Deco Lady, and was previously awarded a Medal for Excellence for her 'Waterlily Mat' in their 'Movement' exhibition.
We are delighted to offer a week with Claire here at our Cortijo.
