Melanie Ward: Stencil Printing & Embroidery Workshop

Whether you are a less confident crafter who seeks activities that provide clear guidelines to follow, or someone who prefers opportunities to make their own creative decisions, this creative holiday will provide a complete learning experience for you.
Each project, from starting with introductory basics about equipment and techniques, to creating complex nature inspired patterns, the course will teach you a wealth of new decorative skills. With the addition of simple but highly effective embroidery stitches, you will gain the abilities to create beautiful items for your own home or as gifts for friends.
People will marvel at your handiwork!
Itinerary
Saturday 20th April
Arrival at the Cortijo where we will have a relaxed lunch and get to know each other. The afternoon is yours to continue socialising, take some time out in your room or lounge in the hot tub and by the pool. Dinner will be served in the early evening.
Sunday
Welcome to the relaxing and mindful technique of stencil printing. Melanie will show you examples of the beautiful decorative effects that can be achieved via her unique stencilling system on various surfaces (paper, card, fabric,wood), giving you inspiration and ideas for the forthcoming days.
We will be decorating a selection of greetings tags, greetings cards, gift bags, linen and satin ribbon, plus a little linen favour bag.
Monday
Our project today is a holiday tote bag. You will learn basic principles of composition and the use of different scale and shapes to achieve pleasing patterns.
This afternoon you will plan and design your cushion cover.

Tuesday
Today you will join Clare Purt at her workshop in Bédar where you will learn silversmithing techniques to make a beautiful twisted silver ring (or matching bangle if you’re a returning guest). Shane will provide cake in the morning and lunch with his signature canapés afterwards!
Wednesday
This will be a relaxed and inspiring day creating your own beautiful meadow cushion cover. You will create your stencilled pattern with plenty of help and guidance. Once completed, you will fix the fabric paint and then the stitching fun begins!
By learning just a few very simple embroidery stitches, stencil projects will be elevated to a new level. Mindful gentle stitching in the warm Spanish sunshine….what bliss!
Thursday
The final day will see you working on your own item of clothing, using everything you've learned this week. Adding areas of pattern and decoration to items of clothing can create a real WOW factor. There will be separate guidance and advice as to what garment will be best to bring.

Friday
Today we’re all heading out! We’ll all travel together to Mojacar for shopping in the boutiques or relaxin with a drink in the shaded plazas.
We’ll continue down to Mojacar Playa for lunch.

From first setting eyes on a beautiful linen and embroidered project in her Granny’s sewing box as a child, Melanie's love affair with all things textile and creative started. Art College in the 1980s, becoming a craft maker, plus 30 years in the world of commercial retail design has meant that she has a wealth of knowledge about creativity. Now it is her passion to share that knowledge with anyone looking to unlock their own enjoyment of crafting and making.
Using her delightful collection of botanical stencils inspired by the countryside of Dorset, Melanie helps people print wonderful designs that they never realised their own hands could create. Whether you are a less confident crafter who seeks activities that provide clear guidelines to follow, or someone who prefers opportunities to make their own creative decisions, this workshop will provide a complete learning experience for you.
